Medicaid & Ambulette Service in NYC: How It Really Works

NYC Wheelchair Transportation is a private-pay service — we are not a Medicaid transportation provider and do not bill Medicaid or managed-care plans, including MetroPlus, Fidelis, or Healthfirst. If your trip must be covered upfront, call your plan’s broker first.

When Medicaid’s broker can’t schedule a trip in time, families call us directly — we can typically dispatch within the hour.

Our crews provide true bed-to-bed transfers, including stairs and two-man assist, with careful, respectful handling at every pickup and drop-off.

After every trip, we provide a detailed receipt and an insurance reimbursement form. Depending on your plan’s policy and the purpose of your trip, your private insurance, long-term-care policy, or FSA/HSA may reimburse you.

Medicaid-covered ambulette transportation is booked through your Medicaid plan’s transportation broker — not through an independent ambulette company. Trips are arranged in advance of your appointment and, once approved, come at no cost to you.

If you’re enrolled in Medicaid and need wheelchair-accessible transport to a covered appointment, your trip is scheduled through your plan’s broker — not directly with an ambulette provider like us. We are not contracted with Medicaid, MetroPlus, Fidelis, or Healthfirst.
